Two River Opens TWO TRAINS RUNNING Tonight
Two River Theater Company, under the leadership of Artistic Director John Dias and Managing Director Michael Hurst, previously announced updated information about its 2013 season. August Wilson's Two Trains Running and Noël Coward's Present Laughter will switch positions in the previously announced lineup; there are no other changes to the run dates, including opening nights.
Ruben Santiago-Hudson's production of Wilson's Two Trains Running will be produced tonight, February 2-24, 2013 in the Rechnitz Theater; opening night is Friday, February 8. Part of Wilson's 10-play cycle about the African-American experience in the 20th century, Two Trains Running is set against the backdrop of social change and political upheaval in the 1960s. Last season, Santiago-Hudson, a Tony Award-winning actor, director, and writer, directEd Wilson's Jitney to critical acclaim and an extended run at Two River. This production will reunite many of the creative team and cast from that production, including actors Harvy Blanks, Obie winner Anthony Chisholm, Tony winner Chuck Cooper, and James A. Williams. David Lee will direct Noël Coward's Present Laughter, which will run June 1-23, 2013 in the Rechnitz Theater; opening night is Friday, June 7. In addition to his work as a stage director at Pasadena Playhouse and other theaters, Lee has won nine Emmys and many other awards for his work as a director, writer, and producer for television. One of the creators of the long-running series Frasier and Wings, he also wrote for Cheers and directed many episodes of Everybody Loves Raymond. Present Laughter, Coward's witty and elegant valentine to the theater, will star Michael Cumpsty, a 2012 Tony Award nominee for his performance in End of the Rainbow.
Two River's 2013 Season also includes Stefanie Zadravec's The Electric Baby, directed by May Adrales in the Marion Huber Theater (April 6-May 5, 2013; opening Friday, April 19, 2013) and 2.5 Minute Ride, written and performed by Lisa Kron, directed by Mark Brokaw in the Rechnitz Theater (April 20-May 12, 2013; opening Friday, April 26, 2013).
New this season, Two River has introduced a limited number of $20 tickets for every performance throughout the season, with no restrictions on when or by whom the tickets can be purchased. Patrons are encouraged to buy early in order to take advantage of this price point. Patrons 30 and under can purchase $24 tickets for every performance, with no restrictions on seating.
