The Marian-Rice Players (MRP) is proud to announce its fall production of “The Curious Savage & The Savage Dilemma.”
This heart-warming comedy tells the story of Mrs. Savage, a wealthy widow left $10 million by her husband. Mrs. Savage wants to set up a Memorial Fund in her husband’s name to help others fulfill their hopes and dreams, but her grown-up stepchildren are trying to get their hands on it. Hoping to bring their stepmother to “her senses,” the stepchildren have Mrs. Savage committed to a mental institution.
In the “sanatorium,” Mrs. Savage meets various social misfits who can’t adjust to the “real world.” While getting to know the other residents, Mrs. Savage leads her self-seeking stepchildren on a wild goose-chase to find the money. When two young hippies arrive to rob the mental institution, chaos breaks out and the money is stolen. The plot twists and turns when Mrs. Savage concocts a plan to get the money which includes conspiring with the hippies. The hilarious events that follow will leave audiences feeling that the neglected virtues of kindness have not been entirely lost in a world that seems motivated at times by greed and dishonesty.
