Penobscot Theatre Company is excited to kick-off its 2016-2017 Season with the Maine professional premiere of Calendar Girls, a comedy that has delighted audiences on both sides of the pond. With a script by Tim Firth, who co-wrote the Miramax film of the same name, Calendar Girls tells the true story of a women's social club in England that attracted worldwide attention by posing au naturel (though cleverly masked) for a worthy cause. Fourteen performances are scheduled, September 8-25, at the Bangor Opera House.
"Calendar Girls resonates because it is about real women," says Producing Artistic Director Bari Newport. "Funny, quirky, complex and ever evolving, these characters are not two-dimensional pin-ups, which makes them infinitely interesting." Playing the diverse ladies of the Yorkshire Dales are Allison Cox, Irene Dennis, Jasmine Ireland, Julie Arnold Lisnet, Margo Lukens, Amy Roeder, Carol Varney, and Sharon Zolper. With this production director Angela Bonacasa, of Castine and known locally for her excellence in fight choreography, makes her company debut. Rounding out the cast are Mark Bilyk, Aimee Gerow, Brad LaBree, and Ron Lisnet. The show will feature designs by Tricia Hobbs (scenic), Scout Hough (lighting), Kevin Koski (costumes), Brandi Larkin (sound), and Meredith Perry (props). This show is appropriate for all audiences. Tickets are available online at www.penobscottheatre.org or through the box office, located at 131 Main Street, Bangor; (207) 942-3333.Videos
