Derby City Playwrights, an organization devoted to developing the works of Louisville writers, announces the third of four planned series of public play readings. Readings of Tender by Bryce Woodard will be featured on May 17 and Another Man's Treasure by Ben Gierhart will be featured on May 31 at 7:30 pm each Sunday at the Bard's Town Theatre.

May 17, 2015 - 7:30 PM - Tender by Bryce Woodard. Jason is a young, struggling actor living in New York with his girlfriend Tara when Immigration informs Tara, she is about to be deported unless she pays back her student loans. Jason realizes that his friendship with Michael, an older, wealthy, gay man dying of Aids, might be his best opportunity to get the money needed to keep Tara in the States. As the lies stack up, Jason begins to wonder if his betrayals will be discovered by the people he cares about, and how far he's willing to go to keep the woman he loves. Featuring the acting talents of Mike Mayes, Casandre Medel, Gary Tipton, Michael Roberts, Jen Starr and Sean Childress.

May 31, 2015 - 7:30 PM - Another Man's Treasure by Ben Gierhart. Gary is someone you see once a week, someone who you couldn't possibly live without, someone who does things no one else wants to do. That's right. He's your garbage man. However, he's not all he seems. A strange ability to experience the memories people have created with the objects they throw away has made him a collector of sorts. That is, until he meets Addison, a young woman who may just be what Gary needs to stop living vicariously and make some memories of his own. Will she be enough? Or does the will to live in the world need to come from somewhere completely foreign, himself? Featuring the acting talents of Kelsey Thompson, Eli Keel, Tad Chitwood, Jacob Cooper, Debbie Hill and Rachel White.

A talk-back with the audience will occur after each reading. All readings will be pay what you can, with all proceeds supporting the artists involved in that evening's production. The Bard's Town Theatre is located at 1801 Bardstown Rd, Louisville, KY 40205.

There will be four more play readings after the May grouping. The final play readings will occur June 14 and July 26 at The Alley Theatre and July 12 and July 19 at Vault1031.

Derby City Playwrights is a collective of Louisville writers dedicated to the development of locally grown plays. Creating new and insightful work from within our community, Derby City Playwrights will build a home for new play development and production in Louisville.
