The second work in the series is "The Events" by David GREIG.
This fictional work is based on the mass shooting by a young right-wing extremist on the Norwegian island of Utøya in 2011, also the basis for the film "Utøya 22. Juli", which screened in Japan in March this year.
There are only two actors in the play. One is a female choir leader who survives; another actor plays the young offender and all other roles. The work premiered in Edinburgh in 2013 to acclaim for its interesting style in which the choir and its accompanists take part in the play, not only in song but also as a Greek chorus. This will be its Japanese premiere.
SETOYAMA Misaki of Minazoma makes her first appearance at the New National Theatre, Tokyo, as director, with translation by TANIOKA Takehiko, who has seen the work performed in the United Kingdom.
