Just released by Israel Musicals:

We've been receiving a lot of feedback about Seussical as the ticket sales have been coming in, and there's one misunderstanding about the show that I wish to address: That Seussical is a kids show.

A few years back, I had the pleasure of seeing a Broadway show called "Urinetown." I remember the opening line very clearly, delivered by the policeman character straight to the audience. "Welcome to Urinetown," he said, "and congratulations on getting past the title!" (photo by Ronit Citri)

Indeed, that title may have deterred some people from seeing the show. I am concerned that the Seussical title may do the same, by giving the impression that this show is not reallyfor adults. True, Dr. Seuss was primarily a children's author, but even at that level, his implicit social commentary is often blistering (see Yertle the Turtle, Gertrude McFuzz, etc..). And true, it is an excellent show for kids, especially 3rd grade and up, middle and high school. But Seussical is not a "kiddie" show at all.

The story is touching, but what makes Seussical really amazing is the music. Simply put, this is one of the most catchy scores contemporary Broadway has seen. With styles that range from swing to latin to pop to a beautiful ballad and lullabye, the music jumps out at people who experience Seussical for the first time. It was written by the team that wrote the Broadway sensation, Ragtime.

We've created a little rehearsal preview video, filmed at recent costume rehearsal. It gives you a taste of the show and the energy of this wonderfully talented cast of professionals and skilled amateurs. You can see it here: http://youtu.be/yBflpz_SbEk

The show opens on January 12th, in Jerusalem, and will be coming to a theater near you. For the full schedule, more about the show, and to order tickets, please visit: http://israel-theatre.com, or call 077-450-6012.

Thanks,
