Yumraj Ji, Kuchh Kariye!! (Bhagwadajjukiyam) is a stylised play based on the Natyadharmi and Lokdharmi Shailiboth ancient classical art forms, the former being poetic and stylised and the latter more realistic and raw. These forms illustrate all the rasas and bhavas mentioned in the Natyashastra the ancient Indian treatise on the performing artswritten more than 2,500 years ago by Bharat Muni.
This play is about the humorous interaction between a no-nonsense guru, Bhagwad, and his fun-loving shishya, Shandilya. The hasya ras (comedy) in the play escalates with the arrival of the dazzling ganika (courtesan), Ajjukey Vasantsena. Adding to the hilarious chaos is Yumdoot the messenger of Yumraj, the God of Deathwho mistakenly snatches away Vasantsenas soul. The souls of Bhagwad and Vasantsena are swapped and what follows is a laugh riot!
This play is a visual treat with its melodious songs, stunning dances and exuberant colours.
