Ars Lyrica early music ensemble brings history to life Ars Lyrica Houston Announces FUN & FREE Performances for the Entire Family throughout May! Throughout May, early music ensemble Ars Lyrica Houston brings history to life with several fun, educational, and free performances suitable for the entire family.

These performances will take place in several locations - from the hustle and bustle of Terminal D at George Bush Intercontinental every Friday in May, to the magnificent gardens of Bayou Bend during Mother's Day weekend. Regardless of the venue, Ars Lyrica is offering a delightful treat to all Houstonians alike: a chance to revel in the musical riches of a centuries-old tradition free of charge. Renaissance Rock is one of the highlights of Ars Lyrica's upcoming community performance calendar. This energetic program quite literally brings history to life with a set-list that includes Europe's most beloved Medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque hits from 1400 to 1720.

An ensemble of five dynamic performers, "The Crumhorn Collective," are dressed in Renaissance attire, showcasing nearly 20 traditional Renaissance instruments including recorders, hurdy-gurdys, sackbuts, bagpipes, and more. This interactive program is designed to connect audiences intellectually and physically with a centuries-old culture. Performed at four locations: Bayou Bend on May 13th & 14th, The Hobby Center for the Performing Arts between May 16th and 18th, the Children's Museum of Houston on May 18th, and Discovery Green on May 21st. This is an exciting program suitable for the entire family that you do not want to miss!

    The Progams SONGS FROM THE HEART"Songs from the Heart," introduces K-12 students to early vocal literature and period instruments. This bilingual program, designed for big assemblies and curated by bilingual mezzo-soprano Cecilia Duarte and percussionist Jesús Pacheco Mánuel, features solo vocal works in various languages and styles... MORE RENAISSANCE ROCK In "Renaissance Rock," the Crumhorn Collective introduces students to more than fifteen fascinating wind and string instruments of the Renaissance... MORE HARP HISTORY Therese Honey presents "Harp History", a demonstration program about the evolution of the harp through medieval, Renaissance and modern times. ?It gives the students an appreciation for how the harp produces musical sound and for changes in the appearance and sound of the harp over time. ?The program is designed for groups of K- through 5 students and includes a brief "hands-on" section...
