BREAKDOWN

“Pressing Matters” is a series of short plays. Each actor will be playing multiple roles.

Seeking:

TWO WOMEN:
To play multiple roles listed below. Any ethnicity

SUSAN ANNE
Character ages from 10 to 70’s all physically – not through makeup or costumes. Physical character – playfulness but also should transmit a quiet seriousness. Bounces from age 10 to older characters frequently.

MISS
Character ages from 11 to 50’s – some costume help, but should be reflected through physical posturing. She has OCD and her speech is very stylized. She is very “proper” but not British. She is an innocent without being childish.

JUDY
Age – 30’s – Mother. Anxious. She is on trial for child neglect. Piece is dark with humor. Have fun.

BETTY
Age – early 40’s but is weary. She inhabits the late 1950’s. She seems older than she is due to circumstance and era. She is timid, but has strength underneath. She has lost her voice.

JOAN
Betty’s daughter – late 20’s/early 30’s. Her decade is early 1970’s. She has some fire to her but is damaged. We see her find her voice.

NADIA
Joan’s daughter – 30’s – She is in present times. She is strong but very pregnant and hormonal. Her voice echoes the strength of her mother and grandmother.

CHLOE
early – mid 50’s – She is terminally ill. The scenes take place in the present with her illness, others bounce throughout her life. She is a very controlled person – precise. Physical role.

ESSIE
Chloe’s wife – late 40’s. She is opposite of Chloe. She is ruled by her emotions., but in the present scenes she must hold it together. She is impulsive and darkly funny. Physical role.

TICKET AGENT
any age. She is in charge and very tongue in cheek. Big character. Comedic.

KRISTEN
40’s (but could be older or younger) – She is very religiously convicted. She is uptight but is also energetic. Filled with spirit. Comedic.
