Seeking
Equity actors and actor/singers for various roles in the upcoming 2015-16 Season.

Preparation
Prepare a 2 minute monologue. Also prepare 16 bars of jazz, blues or gospel. (Black Pearl Sings is a cappella). Bring sheet music; accompanist provided each day. Bring picture and resume stapled together

PLEASE NOTE: housing not available for out of town actors.

UPRISING

Set in the aftermath of John Brown’s Raid on Harper’s Ferry, UPRISING explores self-determination and sacrifice through the lens of a free black community during secession-era America. When Sal discovers Ossie, a hypnotic revolutionary hiding in the field, her life is turned upside down by her strong attraction to him and his revolutionary mission and its impact on her commitment to the well-being of her young son, Freddie. All underscored by the rhythm of the blues.

NOTE: All must sing. This is part of a Rolling World Premiere and the precast roles have been in performance in the production at Horizon's Theatre, Atlanta GA.

SEEKING

Freddie:
African American male, 8-10 yrs old. Sal's adopted son, born into slavery, 3 years emancipated.

Whistle:
White male, 40's. Works for the Jamieson's as the sharecropping community's overseer.

Charlie Pick:
African American male, early 60's. A respected barber for the white community, a wearied voice of reason and founder of this free black community.

Lorrie:
African American female, 50's and heavily burdened by fear. The senior citizen of the community.

The following roles have been CAST:

Sal:
CAST. African American female, early 30's and uneducated, born into slavery, 3 years emancipated

Ossie:
CAST. African American male, late 30's, charming with an intellectual swagger, a fugitive participant in John Brown's Raid.

Bo-Jack:
CAST. African American male, mid 20's, virile, big mouthed and cocky. Born into slavery, recently manumitted at age of 25 through the Gradual Emancipation Act.

A delicious cross between the classic Dickens’ tale and uproarious song parodies of favorite, familiar Broadway show tunes. 6th season at MetroStage.
All roles precast with returning actors from last season. Will consider :
understudy auditions.

Man Who Isn't Scrooge:
Plays Multiple characters, including Cratchit, Tiny Tim and Fred (vocal range G to G and strong falsetto)

Woman Who Isn't Scrooge:
Plays multiple roles including Mrs. Cratchit, Mrs. Fezziwig, the Ghost of Christmas Present and more. (high belt with soprano chops)

A full length musical revue of Thomas W. Jones II, William Knowles, and William Knowles. Their work celebrates music born of the gospel tradition, and African American icons who invented the jazz, blues, and rhythm & blues of the 20th century. Music inspired by the times reflecting the great migration, empowerment and the overcoming of social and political obstacles. Music that resonates today from their acclaimed musicals that include Three Sistahs, Harlem Rose, Cool Papa’s Party, Ladies Swing the Blues, Bessie’s Blues and many more.

how they must work together to fulfill both of their goals. A journey of race and reconciliation, religion and tenacity, historical origins of folk music, and ultimate healing and understanding. Based on the discovery of legendary folk singer/guitarist Huddie “Lead Belly” Ledbetter in prison by folklorist John Lomax and their subsequent musical partnership. Featuring over 20 American folk and spiritual songs.
