BREAKDOWN

[ HAMLET ]
Female, early 20s, any ethnicity. Princess of Denmark, daughter of Late King Hamlet and Queen Gertrude. Androgynous, intellectual, poised. Thinks before she acts, perhaps too much. As she is confronted by Claudia and Gertrude’s incestuous lesbian relationship, Hamlet is forced to question her own sexuality and avenge her father’s murder. *Must have stage combat experience

[ CLAUDIA ] Female, 40-60, any ethnicity. Queen and ruler of Denmark, sister to the late King
Hamlet, and also Hamlet’s Aunt. Stone butch dominant lesbian. Murdered her brother and seduced his wife to take the throne. Believing the current generation has lost sight of the struggles modern women face, she is determined to use her power to further the true feminist fight.

[ GERTRUDE ] Female, 35-60, any ethnicity. Hamlet’s mother. Was seduced by her husband’s sister
after his murder. Traditional femme. Very confident in her beauty. She strives to be a good wife, queen and mother, but always puts her security first.

[ POLONIUS ] Male, 45-60, any ethnicity. Lord Chamberlain to the late King Hamlet and now to Claudia. Father of Ophelius and Laertes. A wily Social climber. Means well but is often misinterpreted as crass. The first one to make a joke after an awkward moment. Mr. Fix-it. Tackles problems head on and always thinks his answer is the right one; shoots from the hip. *Looking for an actor with strong comedic
experience.

[ ROSENCRANTZ & GUILDENTSTERN ] Females, early 20s, any ethnicity. Well-mannered, put together, ambitious and sheltered. Grew up in the shadow of the royal court and therefore constantly have to
fight. Never caught dead without full face on, these ladies are all about making a favourable impression. Eager to please, they are quickly manipulated by Claudia to betray Hamlet.

[ HORATIO ] Queer/genderfluid/non-binary, early 20s, any ethnicity. Hamlet’s best friend from college. Upper-class, educated, and eloquent. Strong-willed, loyal, and compassionate. Overcomes initial biases people have against them because of their gender identity. The kind of person everyone gravitates towards and innately trusts. *PREFERABLY SEEKING GENDER-QUEER/GENDER-FLUID/NON-BINARY ACTORS

[ OPHELIUS ]Male, early 20s, any ethnicity. Hamlet’s childhood sweetheart, Polonius’ golden boy.
Athletic and all-american in appearance, but is also timid, charming, and sweet. Halted in his life, living with his dad, and unsure of his future. He is victimized by Claudia’s violent movement, Hamlet’s emotional abuse, and his convoluted familial relations.

[ LAERTES ] Female, early 20s, any ethnicity. Polonius’s daughter. A woman of action. Strong, intelligent, and confident, honorable. Her fiery desire to do good leads her to make rash decisions. She wants to travel and escape the court but her sense of duty compels her to return and avenge her father’s death. *Must have stage combat experience

In addition to the roles listed, actors submitting will also be considered for four ensemble tracks
which cover the following roles: Fortinbras, Voltemand, Marcella, Player, Attendant, Osric, Bernardo,
Sailor, Cornelia, First Player, Doctor.
