Breakdown

SEEKING

DASH
Male, late 20s-early 30s; cool yet seductive, cultured from a life of privilege, his prep school looks and well-bred demeanor betray the sensitive soul that hides within him, caused by the death of his mother. An art collector and aesthete who has disconnected from life, his passions and fragilities are re-awoken on a trip to Paris, where he falls in love with a naïve stranger.

ELEANOR
Female, 60s or older; a whip-smart loner who waffles between determination and desperation; her hard, accusatory veneer barely masks the frightened, girlish dreamer with poetic soul, who speaks to ghosts and goes to Paris to end her life on her father’s grave in Pere Lachaise cemetery.

CAMMIE
Female, early 20s; naïve, brazen, fresh-out of community college with an associate’s degree in opera performance. Without a filter or any life experience, she’ll do anything to sing on stage at the Opera de Paris. Always sees the best in people, which finds her into dangerous predicaments.

CLAUDE
Male, mid 20s-early 30s; beautiful but doesn’t know it, wide-eyed, sensitive, unassuming, cautious. Has spent his life going with the flow, not ever connecting to a deeper sense of self, until his heretofore unknown passion is strangely awoken by a French painting; in a one-time act of impulse, he travels to Paris, remaining naively yet cautiously open to what will happen next.

ACTOR
Male, 40s – 50s; a Vaudeville comedian, good with accents (especially bad French ones); plays a lovesick Gargoyle atop Notre Dame, the ghosts of poet Paul Verlaine, painter Maurice Denis, scribe Oscar Wilde, as well as a Sewer Rat and a fussy, hopelessly romantic, old-style New York dandy named Ludwig El Silverman.

ACTRESS
Female, late 40s – 50s; a Vaudeville comedienne who oscillates between caricature and expressing a deeply loving soul; good with accents (especially French and Cockney), plays a self-important Pigeon, the manic Fairy Spirit of Absinthe, a well-to-do American art collector, a homeless Cockney prostitute, and a smattering of stylized Parisians.
