Playhouse South Presents HAMLET, Now thru 3/8

William Shakespeare's Hamlet is considered one of the most powerful tragedies in the English language, Hamlet is also widely regarded as both the best of Shakespeare's work and "the perfect play". Set in the kingdom of Denmark, the play's hero, Prince Hamlet, is compelled to exact revenge on his Uncle Claudius for both the murder of his father, King Hamlet and his Uncle's subsequent succession to the throne and marriage to Gertrude, Hamlet's mother. Guilty of his nephew's accusations and fearful of his intent, Claudius eventually manipulates Laertes, the son of his ally Polonius, into a lethal fencing match with Hamlet by leading him to believe that Hamlet murdered Polonius. Laertes also believes that Hamlet was responsible for the death of his sister Ophelia who committed suicide in a state of madness and grief for her love of Hamlet. A duel between Hamlet and Laertes takes place deciding the fates of all concerned.
