Organized crime, a revolutionary music critic and clowns find themselves side by side in South Coast Repertory's 2015 Studio SCR series. In its fifth year, Studio SCR offers Orange County audiences diverse productions and companies in the 94-seat Nicholas Studio.

"This year includes our third partnership with Theatre Movement Bazaar, as well as our first international work from Tijuana and the continuation of our partnerships with Center Theatre Group and La Jolla Playhouse," says Artistic Director Marc Masterson. "Each of these three pieces adds exciting diversity of style and audiences to our stages."

The 2015 season-with performances in April and June-includes:

· April 22-May 3: BIG SHOT: A.K.A This is Not the Godfather, created by Theatre Movement Bazaar, directed and choreographed by Tina Kronis with text by Richard Alger. BIG SHOT is a vaudevillian theatrical collage inspired by The Godfather films and novel. Theatre Movement Bazaar shakes down this iconic story to create a new work, echoing the source and investigating family dynamics, power, criminal behavior and being an Italian American. In BIG SHOT, the American gangster genre is upended through stylized theatrics, dynamic movement, song, dance and pasta. BIG SHOT is also presented as part of the 18th annual Pacific Playwrights Festival.

When: Performances are Wednesday, April 22 at 7:30 p.m.; Thursday, April 23 at 8 p.m.; Friday, April 24 at 8 p.m.; Saturday, April 25 at 2:30 p.m. and 8 p.m.; Sunday, April 26 at 2:30 p.m.; Thursday, April 30 at 8 p.m.; Friday, May 1 at 8 p.m.; Saturday, May 2 at 2:30 p.m. and 8 p.m.; and Sunday, May 3 at 2:30 p.m.

· June 11-14: How to be a Rock Critic, based on the writing of Lester Bangs, written by Jessica Blank and Erik Jensen. Performed by Erik Jensen and directed by Jessica Blank. Manic. Impossibly creative. Dead of an overdose at 33. Lester Bangs was arguably America's greatest rock critic and the first to anoint the "punk" movement. His faith was shattered as the rebel ethos of the '70s gave way to the corporate pop of the '80s. Through his own words, this solo play sheds light on a groundbreaking, pioneering voice in music. This is co-production with Center Theatre Group.
