One More Productions Stages VIOLET, Now thru 5/4

One More Productions - one of Southern California's leading musical theater companies - is pleased to present VIOLET, an acclaimed musical developed at the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center's National Music Theater Conference, in THE GEM THEATER located at 12852 Main Street in Garden Grove.

Based on The Ugliest Pilgrim by Doris Betts, VIOLET is set in 1964 in the Deep South during the early days of the Civil Rights Movement. The show follows the growth and enlightenment of a bitter young woman accidentally scarred by her father. In hopes that a TV evangelist can cure her, she embarks on a journey by bus from her sleepy North Carolina town to Oklahoma. Along the way, she meets a young black soldier who teaches her about beauty, love, courage and what it means to be an outsider.

One of the most acclaimed off-Broadway shows of the '90s, VIOLET astounded critics and audiences with its powerful story, energetic, toe-tapping Gospel, Rock, Country, and Rhythm and Blues score by Jeanine Tesori, and well-crafted book and lyrics by Brian Crawley that are not afraid to deal with important, sensitive issues. VIOLET features a strong ensemble cast with a bravura role for the lead, Miss Nicole Cassesso.

VIOLET is the first musical to be performed at THE GEM THEATRE since the landmark facility reopened following renovations after a major fire. The show's director Damien Lorton is also the co-founder of One More Productions.

General admission tickets are $25 each, $20 for seniors 60 and over, and $15 for children?12 years old and under. Also, $10 student rush tickets?are available for Thursday and Friday performances only. Opening Gala Night Event tickets are $40 each and ticketholders receive an exclusive invitation to attend the post-show catered champagne gala with the cast.
