The Cincinnati Pops Orchestra, under the direction of Conductor John Morris Russell, will ring in the New Year with the jazz band The Hot Sardines on Saturday, December 31 (8 p.m.) at the Taft Theatre in Downtown Cincinnati. The speakeasy-themed concert will feature jazz and swing selections, perfect for the Taft's Art Deco era architecture.

Based in New York City, The Hot Sardines has established itself as one of the hottest jazz bands touring today. With brassy horns, striking vocal arrangements and rollicking melodies reminiscent of bygone 1920s jazz. With dazzling orchestral arrangements performed by the Pops, this New Year's Eve performance features familiar tunes from Duke Ellington and George Gershwin, plus new hits from The Hot Sardines.

"Sometimes life requires a party. But one that conveys a rich emotional experience which people today sometimes need permission to feel, otherwise known as fun. We love high energy music from the first half of the 20th century. Our mission is to show its relevance and power as we usher in 2017," said bandleader Evan Palazzo in this Q&A for the Pops.
