Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park Closes Season With THE PAVILION

The Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park will close its Thompson Shelterhouse season with the THE PAVILION by Craig Wright, which begins public previews on May 14 and continues through June 12.

Twenty years ago, Peter and Kari were the perfect couple - high school sweethearts and very much in love. When Kari got pregnant, a panicked Peter fled town. Now, at their high school reunion, Peter wants to win her back. As the night progresses, Peter and Kari spin a tale of what-might-have-been with what-could-be. By turns poetic and comic, romantic and philosophical, THE PAVILION has been hailed by critics as "an Our Town for our time."

THE PAVILION was nominated for the American Theatre Critics Association Best New Play Award and the Drama Desk Award. Craig Wright's other plays include The Gray Sisters, Blind, Mistakes Were Made, Grace, Melissa Arctic, Orange Flower Water and Recent Tragic Events. Wright was nominated for an Emmy for his work on the HBO series Six Feet Under, and has served as a writer and producer for Lost (Writers Guild of America Award), Brothers & Sisters and United States of Tara. In 2007, he created and produced the ABC series Dirty Sexy Money.

The Ensemble Theatre of Cincinnati's Producing Artistic Director, D. Lynn Meyers, returns to The Playhouse after a two-decade hiatus to guest-direct The Pavilion. Her previous Playhouse credits include directing Traveler in the Dark (1986), The Real Thing (1986), Max and Maxie (1987) and Steel Magnolias (1989).

Dining Options

Karlo's Bistro at The Playhouse offers full-service dining prior to most evening performances. Dinners include salad, entrée and dessert. Reservations are required by noon on the day of the show. The price is $27. Karlo's Casual Fare offers busy theatre patrons an alternative light, quick bite prior to the show. Options include salads, sandwiches, soups, pasta and desserts. No reservations are required.

The cast includes Jeffrey Kuhn (My Fair Lady, The Bible: The Complete World of God (abridged), Dirty Blonde) as Narrator, Jay Stratton (Reckless and A Christmas Carol) as Peter and Anney Giobbe (One, The Glass Menagerie) as Kari.
Prices for THE PAVILION range from $25-$67, depending on day and seat location. New this year, $25 preview performances have been added for the Shelterhouse Theatre (side B) at 8 p.m. on Saturday, May 14; 7 p.m. Sunday, May 15; 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 17; and 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 18. In addition, $30 tickets on weekdays and $35 on weekends are also available in side B. The official opening night is Thursday, May 19 at 8 p.m.

Performances take place at 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 8 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays, 4 and 8 p.m. on Saturdays and 2 and 7 p.m. on Sundays.
