With passionate performances and insightful stories about the music and the musicians who created it, Great Moments in Vinyl pays tribute to Tom Petty, bringing audiences closer to the music they love.
Tom Petty was only 11 when a chance encounter with Elvis lit a fire in his soul. The Beatles fanned those flames when he saw them performing on TV. And by the time he was a teenager, Tom had started runnin’ down the dream. He listened to his heart. He was learning to fly. He wouldn’t back down. And deep inside he knew that even the losers get lucky sometimes. Join Great Moments in Vinyl as we pay tribute to Tom Petty with a concert of hits and highlights from his remarkable career accompanied by stories about the music and the musicians who created it.
Great Moments in Vinyl has presented over 100 tributes in its first 10 years, celebrating the music of everyone from ABBA to Zeppelin. For each show, we recruit a band of talented performers who share a passion for the artist being featured. This unique tribute project is the creation of Chicago radio personality William Lindsey Cochran (aka Bill Cochran from WXRT, WNUA, and MeTV-FM) who loves being able to play music without having to stop for a commercial break.
