Two Lights Theatre Company begins its first full season with The Altruists, by Nicky Silver, from tonight, October 6 to November 4 at the Chopin Theatre.

Who are the youth of this country? Are they the noble and selfless beautifulrebels, making love like Olympians, or are they just drunk on insanity, rioting and self-absorption? Are they a destructive power in a pretty package, or are they simply addicted to consumption and dysfunction, conducting bacchanalian orgies of cheap wine and non-ideas? Whoever they are, they're the nucleus of a band of pseudo-left-wing hooligans and so-called radicals, and they’re in over their heads with sex, drugs, and guns…they’re the five young radicals of The Altruists and they’re wild in the streets of an Occupied America, where love is a political act and where an "accidental" death has nightmarish ramifications for the reckless, the damned, and the stoned. In Nicky Silver's verbose, violent, terrifying, and hilarious play, love dies and hope rots…but firebombs don’t grow on trees.

The play is directed by Matt Olson and Ellen Chambers, and features Aaron Kirby, Daniel McEvilly, Annie Prichard, Bridget Schreiber and Will Von Vogt The design team includes Eleni Sauvaugeu (stage manager), Nick Belley (light design), Jack Hawkins (sound design), Matt Olson (set design) and Olivia Grzasco (costume design).

Staying true to its mission “to explore the duality of humanity and people through various imaginative theatrical experiences," Two Lights Theatre Company will present The Altruists along side the art installation, I Want (______), by Von Bilka and Harriet Bisholem. Conceptual and interactive, this work of art will be installed in the lobby of the theatre and will serve as a compliment to the show. The artists’ inspiration has been drawn from various contemporary artists such as Barbara Kruger and Jenny Holzer.

The Altruists runs tonight, October 6 through November 4 at The Chopin Theatre, 1543 West Division Street. Performances are Thursday-Saturday at 7:30 pm and Sunday at 3 pm.

Tickets for opening weekend (October 6th and 7th) are $15 for general admission and $10 for students and seniors. For the remainder of the run, tickets are $20 for general admission and $15 for students and seniors, with discounted industry tickets available on Thursday nights.
