The Theatre School at DePaul University is pleased to present In the Blood by Suzan-Lori Parks, directed by Nathan Singh (MFA Directing candidate, Class of 2017) in the Sondra & Denis Healy Theatre at The Theatre School building, located at Racine and Fullerton in Lincoln Park. The production premieres on Friday, January 22, and runs through Sunday, January 31, 2016. Performances are Wednesdays through Saturdays at 7:30 PM and Sundays at 2 PM. Previews are on January 20 and 21 at 7:30 PM. Post-show discussions will occur on January 24 (2 PM) and 28 (7:30 PM).

About the play: Hester la Negrita is a homeless single mother of five who dreams of finding beauty and love for her family despite her poverty-stricken life. As she struggles to defy the odds, she runs into a series of harsh and unexpected obstacles. In this modern day riff on Hawthorne's The Scarlet Letter, Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Suzan-Lori Parks asks who has the right to the American Dream. Directed by Nathan Singh, MFA Directing, Class of 2017.

Tickets are $15, preview tickets are $10, and student tickets are always $5. Subscriptions and group rates (6 or more people) are available. The Theatre School at DePaul University is located at 2350 N Racine Ave (at Fullerton). The school is easily accessible via the Fullerton CTA Station and the Fullerton (74) bus. For patrons who are blind or have low-vision, the performance will be audio described on Friday, January 29 at 7:30 PM with a pre-performance touch tour. Call 773.325.7900. The cast features Samantha Newcomb (Hester La Negrita), Ayanna Bria Bakari (The Welfare Lady/Bully), Lily Rozenweig (Amiga Gringa/Beauty), Nosakhere Cash-O'Bannon (Chilli/Jabber), Jerome Beck (Reverend D./Baby), and Sam Kotansky (The Doctor/Trouble).

The production team includes Nathan Singh (Director), Nick Sandys (Fight Director), Phil Timberlake (Vocal Coach), Christina Hubbard (Scenic Designer), Madison Briedé (Costume Designer), Emmaleigh Pepe-Winshell (Lighting Designer), David Samba (Sound Designer), Madeline Kranz (Dramaturg), and Caroline D'Angelo (Stage Manager).

Nathan Singh (Director) is in his second year of The Theatre School's MFA Directing program. His Theatre School directing credits include The Children's Hour, and The Great God Pan. He comes from Los Angeles where he directed new works, operas, and site specific happenings. Some of his favorite credits include Scar Tissue at Company of Angels (published in Best American Short Plays of 2010-2011) and See What I Wanna See at Musical Theatre Repertory (MTR). Site-specific works include Flash Theatre: Go Thy Way With Joy for Playwrights' Arena and Flash Theatre: A Call to Art for a fundraiser at the Los Angeles Theatre Center. Opera works include America Tropical for the Autry National Center, La Plaza de Culturas y Artes on Olvera St, and USC Vision and Voices, and Shipwreck for the Definiens Project and USC Spectrum. He has assisted Michael Rohd on Willfull and Laurie Woolery on The Tenth Muse at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. Singh received a BA in Theatre from the USC School of Dramatic Arts.
