Short Story Theatre Hosts Evening of True Stories Tonight

Short Story Theatre, a troupe of local writers and performers, presents an evening of four entertaining, true stories tonight, December 2, at 7:30 p.m. at Miramar Bistro, 301 Waukegan Avenue in Highwood. Tickets are $10 at the door, cash or check. Reservations for dinner beforehand are suggested by calling Miramar at 847-433-1078.

On the roster for the evening are Rebecca Adler of Gurnee, Jim O'Connor of Lake Forest, and Mary Lou Gilliam of Deerfield. Local author Marc Davis' story will be performed by actor Jim Scott of Highwood.

In her story, "Black Sheep, White Slaver," Rebecca Adler wonders if we all have at least one scoundrel in our family tree.

In his story, "The Last Dozen Roses," Jim O'Connor reminisces about a "saint" in his family tree - but even she has secrets.

Mary Lou Gilliam shares some disastrous dating adventures in "Dating Stories."

Short Story Theatre was founded in 2012 by Donna Lubow of Riverwoods and Rick Leslie and Susan Block of Highland Park and is dedicating to promoting storytelling as a vibrant, contemporary art form. Co-founder Donna Lubow says, "These stories are creative non-fiction, based on personal experiences. Our troupe of more than twenty members from Chicago and the northern suburbs melds writing skills and performance skills to entertain and inspire audiences."

Rebecca Adler has performed at local theatres including Attic Playhouse and Clockwise Theatre, where she also served as Managing Director during its formative years. She spends her days as an instructional designer, writing classroom and e-learning courses for companies across the country. She has been writing since the day she learned to read.

Mary Lou Gilliam was an English teacher for nearly three decades. Her writing credits include nationally distributed educational materials, user guides, and magazine articles.

Jim O'Connor, along with his wife Lynda, founded O'Connor Communications, Inc., in 1989. The firm specializes in promoting authors and their books and has won three national awards for the Best Book Publicity Campaign of the year. Jim is the author of CUSS CONTROL, The Complete Book on how to Curb Your Cursing.

Jim Scott has been a lover of theatre, music, and the pursuit of humor since his school days. He has partially satisfied these passions by playing his guitar, singing in various choirs, performing in theatre productions (most recently Sabrina Fair and Squabbles) and attempting to entertain anyone within earshot.

Marc Davis is a former newspaper reporter and the author of three highly-acclaimed novels.
