VPT is proud to announce Oak Park director, actress and storyteller Megan Wells as their first Artistic Associate. From her experience as a Jeff award-winning director to her contributions as a major voice in the Illinois storytelling community, Wells brings a wealth of experience to VPT.

Wells has been performing since the age of eight, obtaining a BFA from Illinois Wesleyan and an MFA from Illinois State University. She has experience performing and directing in traditional theater, as a communications consultant in the corporate world, and as an award winning storyteller, which includes the Ed Press Distinguished achievement award for writing/telling the history of the Chicago fire with composer/musician Amy Lowe, titled "Fire in Boomtown". She has also written and performed adaptations of mythical stories and literary classics, including her piece "Dracula". Most recently she has worked with VPT directing Wiliam Gibson's "The Miracle Worker", which was Chicago Reader recommended.

On the subject of Wells, Artistic Director Dan Taube said, "Before coming to VPT I had not worked with Megan. I was extremely impressed with her directorial skills during our production of "The Miracle Worker", which Megan directed to great critical acclaim. She has a rare quality in a director in that her visual story-telling as well as her work with actors is equally formidable. Anyone that has seen her story-telling performances knows she is an exceptional actress as well. I look forward to seeing her future acting and directing work at VPT. I am confident she has a lot to contribute to our theatrical menu."

Wells is the first Artistic Associate in the new Village Players program. "We are going to limit the number of Artistic Associates at VPT to make sure we can produce their work annually. Initially, I will be looking more at directors, playwrights and designers to add as Associates. I see attracting those types of artists and creating a sort of residency for them fundamental to improving the quality of progressive work at VPT in the coming years."

Village Players Theater is in the middle of its two seasons for 2009-2010. " A Chorus Line" will open on March 13th, 2010 on its Main Stage for the New American Classics Season. In the studio "Mud" will open on March 27th for the Women On the Cutting Edge Series. For more information or to reserve tickets, go to www.village-players.org or call the box office at 866-764-1010. Village Players Theater is located at 1010 W. Madison, Oak Park, Il.
