Warner Bros Sets THE JUNGLE BOOK: ORIGINS Release for 2016; Andy Serkis to Direct
Warner Bros. announced today that their upcoming adaptation of Rudyard Kipling's THE JUNGLE BOOK will hit the big screen on October 21, 2016, helmed by Andy Serkis. It's titled THE JUNGLE BOOK: ORIGINS.
No word yet on who will star in the project.
This announcement provides one year's distance between Disney's new version of the tale, directed by Jon Favreau, which will be out October 9, 2015. The Disney film, a combination of live-action and animation, will star Neel Sethi as Mowgli, with voice work by Idris Elba, Scarlett Johansson, Lupita Nyong'o, Ben Kinglsey, Christopher Walken and Giancarlo Esposito.
THE JUNGLE BOOK, based on Rudyard Kipling's 1894 collection of stories, originally premiered as a Disney animated feature in 1967, followed by a live action version directed by Stephen Sommers in 1994.
Serkis just appeared in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and is working on Avengers: Age of Ultron, Star Wars: Episode VII and The Adventures of Tintin: Prisoners of the Sun. He is well known for his role as 'Gollum' in the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit films. THE JUNGLE BOOK: ORIGINS will be his directorial debut.
