According to The Hollywood Reporter, a small screen version of the DC Comics super heroine WONDER WOMAN is in the works at The CW. Allan Heinberg ("Grey's Anatomy") is set to write the script.

The project, titled AMAZON, will be a natural companion to the network's long-running "Smallville" which tells the story of how a young Clark Kent evolved into Superman. AMAZON will be a prequel or origin story about the character rather than a look at the adult super heroine often depicted in films and comic books. The story will center on Wonder Woman's alter ego Diana of Themyscira, described as "a warrior princess of the Amazons who is highly proficient in hand-to-hand combat and tactical warfare."

Commenting on a prior incarnation of the project from David E. Kelley which failed to get a pick up from NBC, Warner Bros. TV president Peter Roth told THR last year, "As well crafted and contemporized as it was, it was a big and radical shift for viewers to embrace this new idea -- and that may, to some degree, have had to do with why it didn’t make it."
