According to the Hollywood Reporter, VH1 and VH1 Classic will pay tribute to the late Don Conelius, creator of SOUL TRAIN. Cornelius died yesterday at the age of 75 in an apparent suicide.

The networks announced that they will re-broadcast the Emmy-nominated special 'Soul Train: The Hippest Trip in America' this Friday, February 3rd at 10:00 pm/ET.

According to the network, the 90-minute special chronicles "the show's impact on pop culture, music, dance and fashion." It is narrated by actor Terrence Howard and features rarely seen footage of Cornelius speaking about the early days of the long-running TV show.

Among the celebrities featured in the show are Chaka Khan, Patti LaBelle, Smokey Robinson, Snoop Dogg, Aretha Franklin, Sly Stone, Cedric the Entertainer, Nick Cannon, Clive Davis, L.A. Reid, Leon Huff and Kenny Gamble.

SOUL TRAIN came on the air in 1970 as a local show in Chicago.  It gained national attention one year later. Among those making their 'breakout performances' on the show were Marvin Gaye, Aretha Franklin and Barry White. Cornelius hosted the show until 1993. It ended its run in 2006 after being on the air for 35 years.
