Sunscreen Film Festival Announces 2017 Films

The 12th Annual Sunscreen Film Festival announced its official selections for the 2017 event featuring films with Alec Baldwin, Dylan McDermott, John Cleese, Daphne Zuniga and more. Opening night will feature ichael Mailer's newest film, BLIND, a romantic-drama, starring Alec Baldwin, Demi Moore and Dylan McDermott. Closing night will wrap up the festival with ALBION: THE ENCHANTED STALLION, a family fantasy adventure, starring John Cleese, Debra Messing, Jennifer Morrison and Stephen Dorff. Dylan McDermott will be in attendance for two selections at the festival, Opening Night's BLIND and SUGAR, which is in the Spotlight category.

"I am thrilled to bring my film, BLIND to Florida as the opening night film at the 12th annual Sunscreen Film Festival. It is so wonderful to share the film with the local St. Petersburg audience," said Director Michael Mailer.

"I am excited to premiere my series SUGAR at the Sunscreen Film Festival, and to return to Florida to premiere the series where I produced it with Ringling College and Semkhor Networks," said Dylan McDermott.

Retrospective Screenings will include Daphne Zuniga appearance at the festival honoring the 30th Anniversary of SPACEBALLS. Also in this category will be THE GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH from 1952 directed by Cecile B. DeMille, which won the Oscar for Best Pictures and Best Writing in 1953. The screening will honor the closing of Ringling Bros. after 146 years.

In the Spotlight category, Ringling College's new series, SUGAR, featuring actor/director Dylan McDermott will premiere along with the Florida premiere of THE HERO starring Sam Elliott and the world premieres of ALL ABOUT THE MONEY, featuring Danny Trejo and CREATED EQUAL, directed by Bill Duke and starring Lou Diamond Phillips. The Latin Program will feature "Perros" making its US Premiere starring John Leguizamo with Director Harold Trompetero in attendance. Other categories featured at the festival will be Florida Focus; New Visions (First-Time Directors); Social Awareness Immigration and Social Awareness Environmental Programs.

"Sunscreen has become a widely recognized festival around the world. I travel to festivals like Cannes, Sundance and Toronto every year and I can see it growing to have an impact like those fests. It's really put the St. Pete, Clearwater, Tampa area on the film world map. The film commission is thrilled to be the headline sponsor and looking forward to the next 12 years." Said Tony Armer, St. Petersburg/Clearwater Film Commissioner.

The new programming team, led by Director of Programming Joseph Restaino and Senior Programmer Wey Lin, will present 125 films in total including 37 features and 89 shorts across all their categories.
