SAG-AFTRA and ACTRA unveiled today a new one-of-a-kind event taking place at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival. The unique evening event will recognize the talented actors and filmmakers coming to TIFF 2016. Toronto was selected because its world-renowned festival helps kick off the film industry's annual calendar.

"We're delighted to partner with ACTRA in recognition of our members' contributions to THE ART OF film," said SAG-AFTRA President Gabrielle Carteris. "SAG-AFTRA and ACTRA represent the most talented performers working on either side of the 49th parallel, and TIFF is one of the premier festivals where our members' work is debuted for the world to see."

ACTRA National President Ferne Downey said, "We are proud to be part of this collaborative event to celebrate our creative community of performers from Canada, the U.S. and around the world. This is a great opportunity to honour actors at TIFF in a new way and shine a spotlight on performers' vital contribution to cinema."

The co-hosted event, titled A Celebration of Cinema, is set for Sept. 12 in Toronto.

"SAG-AFTRA and ACTRA represent outstanding performers across North America, and their respective memberships include some of the best on-screen talent presented during the Festival," said Cameron Bailey, artistic director of the Toronto International Film Festival. "We welcome these organisations to Toronto and look forward to celebrating with our friends during TIFF 2016."
