FX will move ahead with the pilot HOKE, starring Paul Giamatti, according to a report by TVGuide. The drama will be written, directed and executive produced by Scott Frank and is based on Charles Willeford's fiction series.

"Like Elmore Leonard, Charles Willeford is one of the most deeply respected writers of crime fiction and he created a wholly original and colorful lead character in Detective Hoke Mosely," FX President of Original Programming Eric Schrier said.

HOKE follows homicide detective Hoke Moseley (Giamatti) as he works murder cases in 1985 Miami. The pilot is aiming to begin production later this year in Miami.

Giamatti will next appear in an episode of Downton Abbey this Christmas. His upcoming big screen projects include 12 Years a Slave, Saving Mr. Banks, Love & Mercy, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, The Little Prince and Madame Bovary. He is known for his roles in Rock of Ages, Cosmopolis, The Hangover, Lady in the Water and Sideways.

Giamatti has appeared on Broadway in The Iceman Cometh, The Three Sisters, Racing Demon and Arcadia. He recently took the stage in Yale Rep's Hamlet this spring.
