Emilia Clarke and Jim Carrey to be Honored at British Academy Britannia Awards

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts Los Angeles (BAFTA Los Angeles) is pleased to announce that actor and comedian Jim Carrey and British actress Emilia Clarke will be honored at the 2018 British Academy Britannia Awards. Carrey will receive the Charlie Chaplin Britannia Award for Excellence in Comedy Presented by Jaguar Land Rover, while Clarke will receive the Britannia Award for British Artist of the Year.

They join previously announced honorees Steve McQueen, who will receive the John Schlesinger Britannia Award for Excellence in Directing, Cate Blanchett, who will receive the Stanley Kubrick Britannia Award for Excellence in Film Presented by Cunard, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, who will receive the Albert R. Broccoli Britannia Award for Worldwide Contribution to Entertainment, and Damian Lewis, who will receive the Britannia Award for Excellence in Television.

The British Academy Britannia Awards is BAFTA's biggest event outside of the U.K. This year's ceremony, set to be hosted by British actor and comedian Jack Whitehall, will take place on Friday, October 26, 2018 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel and will be presented by American Airlines and Jaguar Land Rover. BritBox, the subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) streaming service from BBC Studios and ITV, will live stream the event to U.S. and Canada audiences.

"Jim and Emilia are without question two incredibly inspiring and remarkable talents and we are delighted to be honoring them at this year's ceremony" said BAFTA Los Angeles Chairman Kieran Breen. "Jim is a legend in the industry, bringing joy and laugher to audiences around the world through his unique award-winning performances. Emilia is a force to be reckoned with and has brought us one of the most beloved female characters in TV history."

The Charlie Chaplin Britannia Award for Excellence in Comedy Presented by Jaguar Land Rover recognizes talent whose popularity and cultural impact exemplifies the uniquely transcendent quality of excellent comedy. The Britannia Award for British Artist of the Year pays tribute to a talented actor whose outstanding, iconic performances have demonstrated the high quality of their craftsmanship. Whether a rising star, or an established name, the British Artist of the Year honors the best of British Film, TV and/or Games acting talent.

Jim Carrey is an award-winning actor who has been honored for both his dramatic and comedic work. He won a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Motion Picture - Drama, for the title role in Peter Weir's "The Truman Show." Carrey won his second Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy, in Milos Forman's "Man on the Moon." Over the course of his career he has also been recognized numerous times by the MTV Movie Awards, People's Choice Awards, and Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards.

Carrey currently stars in and executive produces the critically acclaimed Showtime series "Kidding" portraying Jeff, aka Mr. Pickles, an icon of children's television whose life begins to implode. He can next be seen in Paramount's upcoming live-action film "Sonic the Hedgehog" where he will be playing the villainous Dr. Robotnik. Carrey is the subject of the Emmy-nominated Netflix documentary "Jim & Andy: The Great Beyond," a behind-the-scenes look at his portrayal of Andy Kaufman in "Man on the Moon." In 2017, he showcased his art in the short documentary "Jim Carrey: I Needed Color" which explores his life as an artist. Carrey has starred in dozens of films including "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective," "Dumb and Dumber," "Liar Liar," "The Mask," and "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" and on the hit television series "In Living Color."

Emilia Clarke is an undeniably talented actress who has garnered the attention of audiences for her pivotal performances. Clarke recently wrapped filming the eighth and final season of the HBO award-winning series GAME OF THRONES, a role that has garnered three Emmy nominations and two Critics Choice nominations for her beloved portrayal of Daenerys Targaryen, the Mother of Dragons. Most recently, Clarke starred in Disney and Lucasfilm's SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY directed by Ron Howard. The film follows a young Han Solo (Alden Ehrenreich) who goes through a series of daring escapades deep within a dark and dangerous criminal underworld. Clarke played 'Qi'ra', the romantic interest from Solo's past and is described as the mysterious femme fatale of the Star Wars galaxy. The film also starred Woody Harrelson, Donald Glover and Thandie Newton. Clarke will soon begin production on LAST CHRISTMAS starring opposite Henry Golding for director Paul Feig and writer Emma Thompson.

The Britannia Awards are BAFTA Los Angeles' highest accolades, recognizing both outstanding British talent, and exceptional international talent by virtue of their strong connection to British entertainment through their body of work. Known to be an enjoyable evening that captures a unique blend of sincerity and British irreverence, the evening also serves to celebrate the long-standing collaboration between the British and American industries. Proceeds from the event support BAFTA's Access for All campaign, a range of impactful educational initiatives created to provide a foot-in-the-door and a pathway to success for talented individuals, uninhibited by background, demographics or personal circumstance.
