The next edition of the award-winning program MetroFocus premiering in the New York metro area Wednesday, July 24 at 7:30 p.m. on WLIW21 and Thursday, July 25 at 8:30 p.m. on THIRTEEN and at 10:30 p.m. on NJTV.

The next edition of MetroFocus features an in-depth report on the coming Cornell NYC Tech campus on Roosevelt Island. The two billion dollar project will break ground next winter with students and faculty expected to arrive in 2017. In addition to graduate applied sciences and computer engineering courses, a dual-degree master's program in Information Systems will be offered due to a collaboration between Israel's Technion-Israel Institute of Technology and Cornell University. Host Rafael Pi Roman interviews Dan Huttenlocher, Dean and Vice Provost of Cornell NYC Tech, and Professor Craig Gotsman, Founding Director of the Joan and Irwin Jacobs Technion-Cornell Innovation Institute, about building a culture for tech innovation, the challenges facing a new graduate school and how Cornell Tech will contribute to New York's growing tech economy.

In the continuing series NYC Votes 2013, Independence Party mayoral candidate Adolfo Carrión Jr. tells Pi Roman he's running because he represents "that silent majority. And I want to wake that silent majority up." Joining the conversation online, legendary journalist Dan Rather, host of Dan Rather Reports on AXS TV, submitted his question for the mayoral candidates. Pi Roman asks Carrion Rather's question on the air as part of MetroFocus' NYC Votes 2013 project which is collecting viewer questions for upcoming candidate interviews.

A story from Mountain Lake PBS in upstate New York takes us to the town of Thurman as it becomes one of the first communities in the nation to try a new way to bring high SPEED broadband internet service to rural communities. And, sixteen-year-old Malala Yousafzai who was shot by the Taliban steps back into the spotlight to speak up for children, freedom and the right to an education for all at the United Nations.
