SCOTT LAW

BIO:
Consummate musician and songwriter, Scott Law embodies the ideal of the steel-string guitar master. This beloved string-bender is known by audiences and fellow musicians alike for consistently raising the energy level and musicality onstage whenever he performs. Besides appearing under his own name, career highlights include being chosen by bassist Phil Lesh of the Grateful Dead to play Jerry Garcia’s "Wolf" guitar at a Red Rocks Amphitheater benefit show, his stage and songwriting collaborations with The String Cheese Incident and years of performing with legendary fiddler Darol Anger. Scott Law’s original songs and story-like solos come straight from the heart of rhythm & blues, country, rock and bluegrass, merging contemporary life experience with a deep musical heritage into something current and resonant. Fluent on both the acoustic and electric instrument, Scott’s alternately chiming and grinding melodic concept bears favorable comparison to the greatest innovators and practitioners of American Guitar while combining a personal sense of dynamics, phrasing and tone into a signature sound. Scott Law is recognized as a brilliant and versatile instrumentalist constantly evolving his craft. A fearless improviser, Law plays electric guitar with abandon and sings emotively while leading his own groups. He also plays Telecaster with the west coast all-star collective BROKEDOWN IN BAKERSFIELD featuring Tim & Nicki Bluhm and members of ALO. On the acoustic side, Scott lays down earthy, danceable grooves with flat-picking, finger-picking, slide and open tuning techniques in solo or small format ensembles like the BANJO KILLERS!, a duo with TONY FURTADO. Scott released two albums in 2012; an all electric, 5-song live EP “SCOTT LAW REUNION BAND” recorded in his hometown of Portland, Oregon and a second full-length studio album with String Cheese Incident guitarist Bill Nershi and his partner, Jilian Nershi as the band HONKYTONK HOMESLICE entitled "Just Passin' Thru" (SCI-Fidelity Records). His solo album, "Living Room" came out in February 2009 on his own label, Volcano Underground. Law has scored and performed music for film and television, including an original song for the CBS primetime feature "Viva Laughlin" in 2007 and soundtracks for 2 full-length documentaries by The Columbia Land Trust and Tom's Of Maine. Scott has played on numerous studio albums with other artists and is a dedicated and experienced music educator, teaching at various workshops, schools, camps, festivals and private sessions. As a live performer in an extended musical community, Scott has made guest appearances with numerous and varied acts of note, including Phil Lesh & Friends, The String Cheese Incident, Peter Rowan, The Travelin' McCourys, Leftover Salmon, Danny Barnes, Crooked Still, The Mother Hips, Railroad Earth, Melvin Seals and many others.
