Kesha performed an electrifying cover of Lesley Gore's 1963 anthem, "You Don't Own Me" at the Firefly Music Festival on June 17. Due to Kesha's current legal restraints, she has been hindered from performing at her very best. That said, Kesha made her appearance at Firefly Music Festival 2017 a memorable one and she definitely did not pull any punches.

In the middle of her electric performance of the song, Kesha paused and told the crowd, "No one can ever own you, no matter what they say, no matter what they do. Because to own you means they can control your happiness, and don't ever give some other motherfer the keys to your happiness!"

While Kesha did not name any names, the song and her mid-performance statement could have been directed at her former producer, Dr. Luke, who in a series of lawsuits disrupted her music career. Kesha alleged physical and emotional abuse and employment discrimination against Dr. Luke, while Dr. Luke claims breach of contract and defamation against Kesha. Kesha continues to perform live, and has appeared as a guest musician in collaborations with other artists.

The 2017 Firefly Music Festival was held on June 15-18, 2017 in Dover, Delaware. Headliners included The Weeknd, Muse, Twenty One Pilots, Chance the Rapper and Bob Dylan.
