US Stand Up Hari Kondabolu Returns To The UK With Two Week Run Of New Show

American stand-up and one of Variety Magazine's Top 10 Comics to Watch in 2018, Hari Kondabolu announces a 2 week run of his brand new show American Hour at London's Soho Theatre from 3rd - 15th December. Tickets can be found at sohotheatre.com.

Once again taking on "some of the most pressing and provocative issues" (The Guardian) the Brooklyn based comic's latest stand-up hour is set to tackle racism, sexism, colonialism, homophobia, and other light-hearted fare.

Hari has established himself as a unique political voice as the star of the Netflix special Warn Your Relatives which was released in May earlier this year and described as"an incisively funny and formally adventurous hour that reveals a comic in command of his powers" (NY Times). This special joins his previously released albums Waiting for 2042 and Mainstream American Comic on the legendary indie rock label Kill Rock Stars, and his Comedy Central Presents special. Hari's documentary film The Problem with Apu, which he executive produced and starred in, explores the contentious stereotypical Indian character on The Simpsons and the importance of fair representation for marginalized communities, the film was critically applauded after its release in the US on truTV last year.

On screen, Hari was a key writer and correspondent on the Chris Rock produced TV show Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell (FX network), where he's been described by long-time collaborator Kamau Bell as "the comedy equivalent of a punk rock concert that breaks out at a human right's rally". Elsewhere, Hari has appeared on Late Show with David Letterman (CBS), Conan (TBS), Jimmy Kimmel Live (ABC), John Oliver's NY Stand-up Show (Comedy Central), and @midnight (Comedy Central). Closer to home, his UK appearances include Russell Howard's Good News (BBC Three), Live at The Electric (BBC Three), and 8 out of 10 Cats (Ch 4).

Hari is one of the guest-hosts of The Bugle podcast with Andy Zaltzman, and co-hosts the Kondabolu Brothers podcast with his brother Ashok (aka "Dapwell" from the influential rap group Das Racist). He also co-hosted the critically lauded podcast Politically Reactive with his friend Kamau Bell while his other podcast credits include onWTF with Marc Maron, Death, Sex and Money, Lovett or Leave It, The Moth and 2 Dope Queens.

Hari toured with Chris Rock across Europe last year, although he performs rarely in the UK with this show only being his fifth UK appearance in eight years.

WHAT THE PRESS HAS SAID ABOUT HARI:

One of the most exciting political comics in stand-up today
NY Times

If there's a comedian who can prove that it's possible to be funny without being mean... Kondabolu is the man
The New Statesman

A young man reaching for the hand-scalding torch of confrontational comics like Lenny Bruce and Richard Pryor
The Seattle Times

Hari Kondabolu is a brainy comedian who cuts through the polite talk around race and gender NPR

A national comedy treasure
The Stranger

This incorrigibly smart, rising comic exhibits a duality in his act that doesn't seem quite plausible: He's both political and fun... [and] deals in calmly reasoned polemics
Timeout NY

The comic has helped change the way race and class are talked about on TV
