Sir Elton John Calls Reality TV Stars 'Nightmare People'; New Album Focuses on Fame

Global pop sensation Sir Elton John, an oft outspoken critic of reality television, zinged the genre again in a recent interview with BBC World satellite radio.

"With reality television, you get all these nightmare people who want to be successful, when you really want them to be assassinated," Elton said, according to the Mirror.

The singer's upcoming 31st studio album "The Diving Board" centers on performers who find fame too young.

"It's about someone who's attracted to fame no matter what," he said, describing the project. "They want fame whatever the consequences, and they'll do anything to get there."

Elton composed the music for Broadway's The Lion King, as well as Aida, Lestat and Billy Elliot. He also produced Next Fall on Broadway in 2010.

Elton has achieved 35 gold and 25 platinum albums, sold more than 250 million records worldwide and holds the record for the biggest selling single of all time. Over the five decades since his career began in 1969, Elton has played more than 3,000 concerts worldwide. In 2011, as well as touring in Europe, Australia and North America both solo and with his band, now augmented with Croatian duo 2CELLOS, Elton returned to The Colosseum, Caesars Palace, Las Vegas with his all-new show, The Million Dollar Piano. In 2012, he returned to the recording studio with producer T Bone Burnett, and recorded "The Diving Board". Elton and his band continue to tour throughout 2013, and plans are now under way to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the 1973 release of Goodbye Yellow Brick Road later this year.
