The latest JAMES BOND credits song may just be the best one yet- at least the Official Chart seems to think so.

Sam Smith's "Writing on the Wall," written for the latest JAMES BOND film, SPECTRE, has hit Number 1 on music's Official Chart. While this is certainly not the Grammy Award-winner's first Number 1 single, it does have the distinction of being the first JAMES BOND song to achieve such an honor.

"It was such an honour to be asked to write and record Writing's On The Wall and it's incredible that it's become the first Number 1 Bond theme song," Smith said. "It's been an unforgettable experience working with Barbara [Broccoli] and Sam [Mendes] to become part of this British legacy. I couldn't have done this without my fans - this is a special moment I'll never forget."

This is the 23rd JAMES BOND song in the legacy. Sam Smith follows in the footsteps of artists such as Duran Duran, Madona, Louis Armstrong, and most recently, Adele.

After much deliberation as to who would record SPECTRE's theme, it was announced that British musician, Sam Smith, would co-write and sing the tune. Sam Smith is the first British male solo artist to record a James Bond theme song since 1965.

Written by Smith a Jimmy Napes, with production work by British dance duo Disclosure, 'Writing's on the Wall' was released on Friday morning London time. The song is projected to hit the number one spot on the U.K. singles chart.

SPECTRE opens nationwide in the U.K. on Oct. 26 and in the U.S. Nov. 6.
