Today, Gustavo Dudamel, Music Director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, was honored as Musician of the Year at the annual Musical America Awards held at a special ceremony at Lincoln Center. The awards coincide with the publication of the 2013 Musical America International Directory of the Performing Arts, which, in addition to its comprehensive industry listings, features Dudamel on the cover.

Dudamel joins an illustrious group of artists who have been named Musician of the Year, including Esa-Pekka Salonen, Zubin Mehta, Plácido Domingo, Michael Tilson Thomas, Leonard Bernstein and Igor Stravinsky, among others.

Dynamic conductor Gustavo Dudamel’s passionate music-making invigorates audiences of all ages worldwide. He is concurrently serving as Music Director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela, and the impact of his musical leadership is felt on several continents. Entering his fourth season as Music Director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Dudamel’s contract has already been extended through 2018/19, the LA Phil’s 100th season.
