Manics' Debut EP BINARY Delivers A Confident Offering Of Indie And Dance

On their debut EP, Binary, Bay Area upstarts MANICSdeliver a confident offering of indie and dance compositions. The two-piece live act sets the tone on the EP's title track, "Binary," a tale about the cautions of modern technology. Their melodic talents shine through on "Deja Rendezvu" and "Eleven Eleven," complimented by their use of driving basslines and analog synthesizers. Closing with "Embrace," the collection of tracks bring listeners back in time, traveling through the 80's, 90s and beyond, connecting each era to the present via a mix of dancefloor-friendly, indie productions.

Crossing into the top 10 this week on FMQB's "SubModern" Album Chart (which tracks FM airplay on US alternative / modern rock stations), tracks from Binary are currently receiving radio play across North America, including the influential Bay Area station, ALT 105.3 FM. The EP is the culmination of years of hard work grinding it out in California. Alongside their frequent output of singles and remixes, the duo have also regularly performed on the west coast, supporting acts such as Hot Chip, Washed Out, The Knocks, Years & Years, and The Faint. Providing insight behind their musical process, MANICS states:

"The identities we portray to the world vs our personal realities can be dichotic at best, and bipolar at worst. We originally came up with the name MANICS because being in the manic, upside of manic depression is where a lot of creativity happens. Trying to hold onto that energy and focus it before you swing the other way into depression is really important.

Binary is a chance for us to dive a bit deeper into these thoughts. The EP has a lot of ups and downs. Eleven Eleven is definitely a positive song, while Embrace is really dark. And since binary is just 1 or 0, it's a great representation of these two halves of people's lives."
