Fans of Lady Gaga received some devastating news yesterday. The pop star has canceled the remainder of her World Tour in order to have hip surgery which can potentially put an end to her stage career.

According to the UK's The Sun, the singer is suffering from a crippling illness called 'synovitis,' described as a a chronic condition which causes joints to swell. She recently suffered a tear in her right hip, due to the illness, which will require surgery to repair.

Gaga revealed the news to her 34 million Twitter followers, posting, "I've been hiding a show injury and chronic pain for some time now and over the past month it has worsened. I hid it from my staff, I didn't want to disappoint my amazing fans."

Following her concert in Canada on Monday, the star was in acute pain. As she described it to her fans, "I could not walk - and still can't."

Ticketholders for the canceled performances will get refunds. Apologized the singer, "I hope you forgive me, as it's nearly impossible for me to forgive myself. I'm devastated."

Synovitis is related to arthritis and auto-immune disorder Lupus. Recurring episodes may result in a crumbling of the joints.
