Zankel Hall inside the prestigious Carnegie Hall will be the setting for a performance of new music from Colombian composer and producer Julin de la Chica as part of the Irreverence Group Music (IGM) 2016 Gala Concert on March 28 at 7:30 pm. Joining him in the performance will be alternative classical singer Radmilla Lolly, who will be premiering "IV Short Stories at the Standard Hotel op.6," as well as the renowned Scorchio String Quartet.

Mr. de la Chica is enthused about the opportunity to premiere intriguing new works in such a revered venue. The intimate atmosphere of Carnegie Hall provides the perfect background for music exploring the sort of sonic territory that popular, mainstream music shies away from. The attentive listener can reap tremendous rewards from Mr. de la Chica's spare, yet deeply emotional playing style.

While many have given him the label of post-minimalist, Mr. de la Chica's work resists easy categorization, and that's entirely by design. Although he began playing the piano at age 5, it would be a stretch to say he was trained in any classical sense. A life full of immersive experiences has been the composer's education thus far. Countless hours of self-study and self-reflection have led Mr. de la Chica down a pathway where music, philosophy and spirituality join hands, revealing aspects of human nature that rapid-fire modern music perhaps even modern art in general cannot broach.

Mr. de la Chica is pleased to share the stage with the eclectic Scorchio Quartet, which just recently performed alongside the legendary Iggy Pop in a performance of Philip Glass's String Quartet N.5. The event was largely a tribute to the late David Bowie, and was held at Carnegie Hall clearly, the Scorchio Quartet is no stranger to the limelight.

The Scorchio Quartet and Mr. de la Chica also collaborated on the music behind a much-praised short film. Filmmaker Badr Farha's "The Last Conversation" (2014) picked up an Award of Recognition from the IndieFEST Film Awards. The film's score and opening piece was composed by Mr. de la Chica and performed by the Scorchio Quartet.

Released in late 2015, "Nocturnal & Circular Images op. 5" is Mr. de la Chica's most recent album. The austere, yet organic collection of piano pieces earned high praise from critics and peers. His newest productions can be expected to follow naturally from his previous works the cultivation of a sonic garden that continues to produce incredible fruit.
