The Town Hall presents Chucho Valdés, playing selections from his new album, Border-Free. Produced in association with the Blue Note Jazz Festival, the concert is set for Friday, June 21, 2013 at 8pm at The Town Hall, 123 W 43 St, NYC.

Border-Free expands Valdes' stylistic palette beyond the realm of Latin jazz by moving closer to the roots of Afro-Cuban music (including Yoruba chanting), as well as incorporating elements of flamenco and Arab-Andalusian music (reflecting his recent years spent in Spain) and Native American music, especially Comanche rhythms. Using a streamlined ensemble - plus special guest Branford Marsalis - and placing his piano more front-and-center, the new recording is a major turning point in the pianist's lengthy career.
