Variety reports that John Legend has signed on for the cast of the upcoming musical drama LA LA LAND for Lionsgate. The singer joins previously announced cast members J.K. Simmons, Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling on the film from "Whiplash" director Damien Chazelle.

Legend picked up an Oscar, along with Common, for THE SONG "Glory," from the Martin Luther King, Jr. biopic "Selma." He made his acting debut opposite Samuel L. Jackson in "Soul Men." Legend will reportedly compose songs as well as sing and act in the film.

LA LA LAND tells the story of a jazz pianist (Gosling) and an aspiring actress (Stone) who fall in love but face difficulties as they become more successful.
