OIFA's 'Our Image in Film: Black Cinema Weekend' Begins Tomorrow

Houston based arts organization, Our Image Film & Arts (OIFA) will be hosting it's Our Image in Film: Black Cinema Weekend at Rice Media Center on the campus of Rice University. Dates are Friday and Saturday, April 17th - 18th. Tickets, more information can be acquired at www.ourimagefest.com.

Films to be shown - On April 17th OIFA will showcase Friday Night Short Films including short films by local and national black filmmakers. The films range from local and student productions (Texas Southern, Rice) to films created by nationally recognized filmmakers. The 1st film starts at 7pm.

White Shadow, filmed in Tanzania, executive produced by Ryan Gosling and featuring a cast of talented and powerful non-actors, follows the story of the hunting and killing of albino Africans due to the belief that their flesh possesses mystical properties. This film was a fan favorite at the recent Sundance Film Festival. The film screens Saturday April 18th at 5pm.

This Thing We Do - A Documentary on Houston's DJ Culture is produced by Jason Woods aka DJ Flash Gordon Parks and funded in part by a grant from Houston Arts Alliance. Parks gets insight from a DJ who's who list of Bayou City pioneers including Daryl Scott of Blast Records, Gracie Chavez, DJ Sun of Soular Grooves, and Chuck Roast of Vinyl Edge Records and the legendary punk rock show, Funhouse to name a few. The film screens Saturday April 18th at 7pm followed by a panel discussion with Parks and members from the film.
