Monterey Media Acquires THE CITIZEN with Agnes Bruckner

monterey media has completed a deal with Production Company 3K Pictures for all US and Canada rights to Sam Kadi's debut drama THE CITIZEN starring Agnes Bruckner (BLOOD AND CHOCOLATE, THE WOODS), Khaled Nabawy (Fair Game, Kingdom of Heaven), William Atherton (GHOSTBUSTERS, THE LAST SAMURAI), and Cary Elwes (THE PRINCESS BRIDE, NEW YEAR'S EVE) with a theatrical release set for August 2013 as it was announced by monterey media's President Scott Mansfield.

The deal was negotiated by Chris Sablan from Original Artists (Beverly Hills, CA) on behalf of the filmmakers with Scott Mansfield.

Radiant Films International is handling all foreign rights to the film with President and CEO Mimi Steinbauer presenting the film to buyers in Cannes.

Written by Jazmen Brown, Samir Younis, and Sam Kadi who makes his directorial debut, THE CITIZEN is also produced by Kadi with Chris Wyatt (NAPOLEON DYNAMITE) and Alan Noel Vega. Ameer Kabour is executive producing.

THE CITIZEN tells the story of an Arab immigrant named Ibrahim (played by celebrated Egyptian actor Khaled Nabawy ) who wins the American green card lottery, arriving in New York City on September 10th, 2001. To date THE CITIZEN has received five awards including Best Ensemble Cast Award and the Mass Impact Award at the 28th Boston Film Festival.

THE CITIZEN early this month won the Best Feature Drama at the 18th International Family Film Festival.

Originally from Syria, Sam arrived in the U.S. as a twenty-something year old theatrical actor and writer. Settling in Michigan, he soon discovered that his Passion was bringing stories to life on the big screen. After graduating from the Motion Picture Institute of Michigan, Kadi went on to direct and produce a series of short films including the eight-time festival winner "RAISED ALONE". THE CITIZEN is Kadi's feature film debut. Kadi was recently recognized by the prestigious foundation Cinema for Peace for raising awareness for human rights issues through films and was invited to speak before the International Criminal Court at The Hague, The Netherlands last June. Kadi has been featured on numerous international and national television and radio programs including CNN, FOX, France 24, Al Arabiya T.V, and NPR.
