Variety reports that actor Matthew Fox is set to star in the upcoming film, EMPEROR, by director Peter Webber. The film is a love story which takes place during the turbulent final days of World War II, as General Douglas MacArthur takes the reigns over the recently surrendered Japanese. Fox will portray General Bonner Fellers, an attaché to the General, who is given the responsibility of deciding the fate of Japan's Emperor Hirohito. The film has been scripted by David Klass and Vera Blasi.

According to Variety, the film is a combination of historical drama and post-war romance. Fox's character is in the midst of a great love affair with Aya, a Japanese exchange student from his past. At the same time, he struggles with the decision of whether or not to try Hirohito as a war criminal. In true Hollywood fashion, the two stories will intersect and force Fox's character to make a monumental decision. Currently,no other casting announcements have been made. Filming is set to begin at the end of January.

Director Peter Webber is best known for his feature film, 'Girl with a Pearl Earring', starring Scarlett Johansson and Colin Firth. The film has received numerous accolades, including three Academy Award nominations, two Golden Globe nominations, and 10 BAFTA Award nominations. He has also directed the film, 'Hannibal Rising', based on the book by Thomas Harris. His TV credits include HBO's 'Six Feet Under'.

Matthew Fox is perhaps best know for starring in ABC's long-running drama, 'Lost.' He recently starred in the West End production of Neil LaBute's IN A FOREST DARK AND DEEP.
