Following the success of their hit comedy Ride Along, which has earned just over $120 million worldwide since its release last month, Universal Pictures is bringing back Ice Cube and Kevin Hart for Ride Along 2.

The original creative team from Ride Along is back for the sequel as well, with Tim Story directing from a script by Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi. William Packer is also returning to produce, with the studio eyeing a late June/early July production start for the follow-up. No story details have been released, but there is talk that the plot will have a more multi-cultural appeal to expand the comedy's reach to other parts of the world. While the original Ride Along has done quite well domestically, earning $117.2 million, it has only made $3.4 million from six international territories, although the comedy will be expanding to more countries in the near future.

Kevin Hart portrayed Ben Barber in the original comedy, a security guard who wants to marry his girlfriend Angela (Tika Sumpter). He has to contend with Angela's overprotective brother James (Ice Cube), an Atlanta cop who gives Ben a chance to prove he's worthy of marrying his sister by taking him on a ride along. It isn't known if co-stars John Leguizamo, Bruce McGill, Bryan Callen and Laurence Fishburne will be returning for the sequel at this time.

Ride Along 2 comes to theaters in 2016 and stars Ice Cube, Kevin Hart. The film is directed by Tim Story.

Ride Along was released January 17th, 2014 and stars Ice Cube, Kevin Hart, John Leguizamo, Bruce McGill, Tika Sumpter, Bryan Callen, Laurence Fishburne, Dragos Bucur. The film is directed by Tim Story.
