Jersey Shore Celebrated at Upcoming Film Festival

Included in the program of the Garden State Film Festival are three films that capture the spirit of coastal New Jersey. The 2007 feature Greetings from the Shore makes a return engagement after first screening at GSFF in 2008, when it was named "Pick of the Flick" by audience voters. It will be presented at 7:00 p.m. on March 19, 2015, in connection with benefit for the Boys & Girls Club of Atlantic City at the Claridge Hotel Showroom on the third floor.

Written, produced, directed and acted by mostly New Jersey natives, the film stars Paul Sorvino as a wise and kindly line cook - with a past - who takes a young waitress, played by Kim Shaw, under his wing at a swank yacht club. The romantic and intriguing plot is enhanced by a strong supporting cast and Lavallette locations later ravaged by Hurricane Sandy. Director Greg Chwerchak will be available for a Q&A after the screening. Tickets are $12.00, with donations accepted to benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Atlantic City.

Two documentaries take different looks at the AFTERMATH of Sandy, the struggles and the triumphs. Shot on location in Manasquan only 100 days after Hurricane Sandy, Ashore tells the story of a surfer trying to rebuild his home and make sense of his life after the storm's destruction. Produced by Robert Anderson it is screening in a block of shorts on Saturday, Mar 21, 8:15 p.m. in the Screening Room at Resorts Casino Hotel. Beyond the Castle documents the June 2014 Atlantic City Sand Sculpting World Cup following crews from across the globe all determined to build the most impressive and audacious sand masterpiece on earth. The competition took two weeks, awed the public, received accolades and then the whole enterprise was bulldozed. Directed by Frank Weiss it screens in a film block at noon on Saturday, March 21 in Resorts Starlight Room. Tickets are $12.

The Garden State Film Festival was envisioned by 25-year film industry veteran Diane Raver and the late Hollywood actor Robert Pastorelli in 2002 and launched the following year. Since 2003, thousands of films have made their public premiers, hundreds of thousands of people from around the world have attended; and the total infusion of cash to local businesses since inception exceeds $5 million. Until 2013, it was held in Asbury Park. In 2014, it moved to Atlantic City as a major component of DO AC, the marketing campaign to promote arts and culture the city spearheaded by the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority. The GSFF is a 501-c-3 non-profit organization.
