Hugh Grant Joins Guy Ritchie's Spy Movie THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E.

The Hollywood Reporter writes that Hugh Grant has signed up for Guy Ritchie's THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. for Warner Bros. Grant will play a supporting role as head of British Naval Intelligence in the spy film, which stars Man of Steel's Henry Cavill.

Cavill plays "Napoleon Solo" in the reboot of the 1960's TV series of the same name. It was initially announced that Tom Cruise would appear in the lead role, but the action star bowed out of the project to focus on his Mission Impossible franchise. Other cast members include Armie Hammer and Alicia Vikander.

The film, with script by Scott Z. Burns and Max Borenstein, follows the spy adventures of an American agent, Napoleon Solo (Cavill), and Soviet agent Illya Kuryakin (Hammer). The original TV series was broadcast on NBC from 1964, to 1968. It followed the exploits of two secret agents, played by Robert Vaughn and David McCallum, who worked for a fictitious secret international espionage and law-enforcement agency called U.N.C.L.E.

Grant last appeared on the big screen in Cloud Atlas and Did You Hear About the Morgans?, as well as the animated feature The Pirates! Band of Misfits. His upcoming projects include Bridget Jones's Baby and an untitled comedy with Marc Lawrence. Grant's other screen credits include Music and Lyrics, Love Actually, About a Boy, Bridget Jones's Diary, Notting Hill, Sense and Sensibility and more.

Production on THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. is set to begin in September 2013.
