BAFTA Los Angeles & American Cinematheque Presents 'BOND AT 50' Retrospective, Now thru 6/23

In celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the James Bond film series and the 25th Anniversary of BAFTA Los Angeles, the organization has partnered with American Cinematheque to present a complete retrospective screening series of every official James Bond 007 film, beginning with Dr. No and From Russia With Love tonight, June 8, 2012 at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood.

007 at 50: The Complete James Bond Retrospective will run between tonight, June 8 – June 23, 2012 at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood and Aero Theatre in Santa Monica and will include screenings of every single installment in the James Bond 007 series including Goldfinger, Diamonds are Forever, Live and Let Die, The Spy Who Loved Me, The World is Not Enough, Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, and many others.

The James Bond films, which have starred such world-renowned actors as Sean Connery, Roger Moore, Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig in the title role, are one of the most popular and successful film series in entertainment history. Additionally, the retrospective screening series will include giveaways and guest speakers, as well as the unveiling of never-before-seen interview footage with Bond alumni from the BAFTA Los Angeles Heritage Archive interviews.

007 at 50: The Complete James Bond Retrospective is one of many events taking place in June to celebrate BAFTA Los Angeles’ 25th Anniversary. Others include a production of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Nights Dream with Washington Preparatory High School to be performed June 9 and 10 at 3:30 pm at Ladera Height’s Park located at 6027 Ladera Heights Boulevard in Los Angeles; and The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee GArden Party on Sunday, June 3 in celebration of Queen Elizabeth’s 60 years as Head of State of the United Kingdom and Head of The Commonwealth.

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts Los Angeles is the only Anglo-American professional organization founded to promote and advance original work in film, television and interactive media. BAFTA Los Angeles serves as the bridge between the Hollywood and British production and entertainment business communities, and provides exclusive access to screenings, Q&As with creative talent, produces seminars with leading UK film and television executives and the Heritage Archive, featuring broadcast-quality interviews with distinguished British members of the film and television industries, giving life to the preservation of the UK film industry for future generations.

Maintaining a long tradition of recognizing the finest filmmaking and television talent, BAFTA Los Angeles hosts a series of events, including the prestigious Britannia Awards, the Awards Season Film and Television Tea Parties in January and September and the annual GArden Party.

A commitment to professional and community education is at the heart of the Academy’s charitable remit. BAFTA Los Angeles hosts the Student Film Awards and has an active Scholarship Program offering financial support and mentorship to UK students studying in the U.S. The Academy created The Inner City Cinema, a screening program providing free screenings of theatrical films to inner city areas not served by theatres. The success of Inner City Cinema has led to further free screening programs extended to multiple inner city parks through the Academy’s work with both the County of Los Angeles Department of Parks and Recreation (Parks After Dark) and The City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks (Teen Summer Camps).

Established in 1981, the American Cinematheque is a 501 C 3 non-profit viewer-supported film exhibition and cultural organization dedicated to the celebration of the Moving Picture in all of its forms. At the Egyptian Theatre, the Cinematheque presents daily film and video programming which ranges from the classics of American and international cinema to new independent films and digital work. Exhibition of rare works, special and rare prints, etc., combined with fascinating post-screening discussions with the filmmakers who created the work, are a Cinematheque tradition that keep audiences coming back for once-in-a-lifetime cinema experiences. The Egyptian was the home of the very first Hollywood movie premiere in 1922. In January 2005 the American Cinematheque expanded its programming to the 1940 Aero Theatre on Montana Avenue in Santa Monica.
