HBO continued to present a satirical look at the week in news, politics and current events, as well as addressing broader issues, when LAST WEEK TONIGHT WITH JOHN OLIVER continued its 35-show second season with a new edition SUNDAY, SEPT. 13 (11:05-11:35 p.m. ET/PT), exclusively on HBO.

This week's topics included the departure of two Michigan House of Representative members from office, Guatemala's election following the ex-President Otto Peréz Molina's resignation and subsequent arrest, Queen Elizabeth's achievement as Britain's longest serving monarch, the challenges faced by America's public defenders, and an update on Our Lady of Perpetual Exemption Church.

Other HBO playdates: Sept. 13 (1:40 a.m.), 14 (4:15 p.m., 4:20 a.m.), 16 (1:05 a.m.) and 17 (5:25 p.m.)

HBO2 playdates: Sept. 14 (7:30 p.m.), 15 (9:30 p.m.), 18 (6:30 p.m.), 19 (2:00 a.m.) and 20 (6:30 p.m.)

LAST WEEK TONIGHT WITH JOHN OLIVER is also available on HBO NOW and HBO GO.

The show is the only weekly news-oriented comedy series to be presented on Sunday night. Taped in New York a few hours before it debuts on HBO, the show features a mix of Oliver's topical commentary, pre-taped pieces and occasional guests.

LAST WEEK TONIGHT WITH JOHN OLIVER has been nominated for four Primetime Emmys®, including Outstanding Variety Talk Series and Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series. The show previously received a Writers Guild Award in the category of Comedy/Variety (Including Talk) - Series.

The show has been renewed for its third and fourth seasons. Consisting of 35 shows apiece, season three will run on HBO in 2016, to be followed by season four in 2017.

In the first season, which concluded in Nov. 2014, Oliver covered a wide range of topics, from net neutrality and Uganda's anti-LGBT laws, to Miss America, climate change and civil forfeiture abuse by the police.

Hailing LAST WEEK TONIGHT WITH JOHN OLIVER as "2014's best show," the Huffington Post called it "one of the defining conversation starters in both popular culture and news media," praising "a winning star, astute tactics and a self-awareness that's remarkably on point." In addition, it was named to "best of" lists for the year by the AP, the Los Angeles Times, the Hollywood Reporter, TIME, Vanity Fair, the Boston Globe, the Detroit News, Rolling Stone and the San Francisco Chronicle, among many others. Videos featuring content from the show, as well as original material designed exclusively for the web, have been viewed by millions of people.
