Jim Gaffigan Signs Second Book Deal; CBS Pilot Still Alive
Deadline reports that Jim Gaffigan, who just a month ago released his first book, 'Dad is Fat,' has signed on to write a second book with publisher Crown Archetype.
The yet to be titled project, for which the comedian will earn a whopping seven-figure figure, is described as "a collection of essays about one of Gaffigan's favorite topics: food." The book is expected to hit on shelves in 2014. Dad Is Fat debuted at #5 on the New York Times bestseller's list and currently has over 115,000 hardcover copies in print.
Gaffigan can currently be found on a 50-city national tour, and recently starred in a comedy pilot for CBS. Though the project was not picked up for the network last month it remains "alive" and is currently be retooled.
The comedian is known for routines or skits relating to being lazy and eating food, especially popular routines regarding Hot Pockets, cake, andbacon. In 2004 Gaffigan's stand up material was featured in Comedy Central's animated series Shorties Watchin' Shorties. His 2006 album,Beyond the Pale, consisted primarily of material regarding food and American eating habits. The album was accompanied by an hour-long special on Comedy Central of the same name, which was released on DVD. His 2009 album, King Baby, was also a television special filmed inAustin, Texas at the end of his "The Sexy Tour". Comedy Central released King Baby on DVD.
In 2012, Gaffigan taped a one-hour stand-up special Mr. Universe at the Warner Theater in Washington, D.C. He announced that, based on the business model used by Louis C.K.'s Live at the Beacon Theater, the stand-up would be available online through his website for $5, with $1 of the proceeds going to the Bob Woodruff Foundation.
